We share in the sadness of many at the death of John McNeice, Jr. of Canton, Massachusetts. John served for many years on the Pope St. John XXIII National Seminary Board of Trustees and he and his wife, Margarete, were beloved members of the Pope St. John XXIII National Seminary Community. Their philanthropy and impact on this Seminary and to many Catholic Charities in the Boston area cannot be overstated.
In 2007 the Margarete and John McNeice endowed Faculty Chair in Pre-Theology was established. The McNeice family generously provided an endowment of one million dollars. Fr. Leo Manglavitti, S.J., an alumnus (class of 1996) became the inaugural holder of this new chair. The establishment of this program was the first expansion of the academic program in the Seminary’s history. Pre-Theology offers an optional year of introductory coursework in basic Catholic doctrine and philosophy for candidates whose bishops deem it appropriate. Five seminarians made up the inaugural class of this program in September of 2007.
May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
