Mass for the Institution of Acolytes

The Pope St. John XXIII National Seminary community welcomed Bishop Edgar da Cunha, Bishop of Fall River, on Wednesday February 12th, to celebrate the Mass for the Institution of Acolytes.  First Year Theologians were installed so each may primarily aid the deacon and minister to the priest. According to the Ministeria Quaedam (an Apostolic Letter given Moto proprio by Pope Paul VI in 1972), “…It is his duty therefore to attend to the service of the altar and to assist the deacon and the priest in liturgical celebrations, especially in the celebration of the Mass;…” Other duties may also be assigned as dictated by the circumstances of the liturgy or celebrations and as directed by the priest.
