“Take this book of Holy Scripture and be faithful in handing on the word of God, so that it may grow strong in the hearts of his people."

With these words, The Most Rev. Felipe J. Estévez, Bishop of the Diocese of St. Augustine, instituted twelve seminarians to the Ministry of Reader on October 25, 2017.

This ceremony marks an important step toward ordination. Though they may have been lectors in their own parishes or ministries, now they encounter God's Word in a deeper sense. They proclaim the Scriptures and embrace the role of teachers of God's Word.

Every year of the fall semester, PSJS seminarians and spiritual directors take time away from academics and participate in a week-long retreat.  Taking this time allows the men to slow down after the hectic pace at the start of a new academic year.  It helps the men to center their priorities and to hear God more clearly; it is a time to reflect on their paths and strengthen their resolve to serve God and the people of His Church.  It is good – and at times emboldening - to experience and to be the quiet, to listen.   It is also a great time for fellowship among the men.  At the conclusion
