I am entering PSJS having transferred from the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington, NY. Before entering seminary I worked in the finance and banking industry. I felt the call to priesthood at an early age, perhaps 7 or 8, when I was an altar boy. One day during Confession, the priest asked me: “Have you ever thought about becoming a priest”? It made me realize that I needed to take action. However, I remained passive and did not pursue it. When my mother was diagnosed with a terminal illness and given a 15 month life expectancy, I put my priestly discernment aside. It was during her care that I truly appreciated the value of doctors and nurses as healers of the body. They treated my mother for ten years beyond her initial diagnosis. When a priest arrived to give my mother her final blessing, it seemed like a visit from an angel. I realized then the only thing greater than a healer of the body is a healer of the soul. That led me to actively pursue the priesthood.
